What is an IP camera?
IP cameras are Closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras that use Internet Protocol to transmit image data and control signals over a Fast Ethernet link. As such, IP cameras are also commonly referred to as network cameras. IP cameras are primarily used for surveillance in the same manner as analog closed-circuit television. A number of IP cameras are normally deployed together with a digital video recorder (DVR) or a network video recorder (NVR) to form a video surveillance system.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Because IP cameras store the images they capture on a server, users can e-mail video images to anyone in the organization for further consultation. With old analog cameras, security staff is forced to watch a wall of monitors to determine if a security breach is occurring. It doesn't take long for attention to wane when staring at a wall of monitors — a factor that can quickly compromise a security system.

Now with analytics, an IP security camera can be programmed to "watch" for suspicious activity. It means the recording will turn on with a person, but not with a dog or other small animal. It will also know the difference between a tree moving in the wind and a car coming into view.

What is a DVR?
DVR is a unit that records your cameras on to a hard drive or other media device. This can be on a stand alone “DVR” or a Personal Computer set up to record your cameras. The length of time for recording is relative to the size of hard drive, up to 1 TB. The recording is circular, so will record over the oldest stored video. No tape changing!

What is an Infra-red Camera?
Infra-red Camera is one that has IR led’s to improve night time viewing and recording. The image is switched to B/W for best night time viewing.

What is TVL 580?
TVL (television line) stands for the lines in an analogue camera picture. The more lines, the sharper the image. IP cameras use pixels.

What is motion recording?
This allows the recording DVR to activate only when something is moving in the camera's view. This saves the non-important events from taking up space on the recording device.
